A town for everyone

We had to wait until the 13th century for written records to hint at the horizon extending beneath the Čakov Tower, which we note as the forerunner of the present city. This area was changed by the people and events. It was changed by life. In the 16th century, the Zrinski noble family erected a grand castle surrounded by a lake. And it is the name of those noblemen that we attach to our fair city: Čakovec, the city of the Zrinski family, because the spark of life in the sense of economy, culture, religion and community was lit in their time, and lasts to the present day.

Čakovec has an excellently well-developed infrastructure and traffic system. With a population of 20,000, it is both open to new ideas and undertakings and yet ready to uphold old traditions. The good nature of its people can be discerned from its well-kept surroundings where they live and work, but also through their cuisine, which combines the specialties of the region, its customs and a friendly charm. This all inevitably makes you want to come back for more.

The potentials of the town are also reflected in sporting venues where professional and recreational sportsmen like to play. The historic and cultural sites intrigue the locals due to the wish that they preserve and constantly enrich their values, and this also goes for the visitors who, at first glance, recognise the dedication that has been put into these sites. That, of course, is not all: there are plenty of things to do and see for young people, music and theater lovers, heritage or adventure seekers, or for those who just want to relax and enjoy Čakovec.
