The highland riviera

Fužine has always been strategically located in Gorski kotar and all roads connecting central Croatia and the Kvarner Gulf have led through it. It is also the first glimpse of the sea that you get when travelling from Zagreb to Rijeka. It is a town typical of Gorski kotar and attracts with its contagious Mediterranean atmosphere. It is easily reachable - only a kilometre away from the motorway Zagreb - Rijeka. You will be delighted by the unspoiled nature, comfortable facilities and excellent restaurants and you will not be able to resist delicacies made with game meat or mushrooms from the woods of Gorski kotar, freshly caught trout and tasty desserts made of forest fruits.

Fužine is the choice of lovers of nature and active vacations, and those who like to flee from overcrowded tourist spots in the summer but still want to enjoy easily accessible beaches. The Vrelo cave with its mountain spring, lake and abyss is the biggest attraction. As is usually the case, it was discovered by accident in the mid-20th century and because of the lay of the land, with no steps, it is the only tourist cave in Europe accessible to people with disabilities and suitable for children of all ages.

This region is rich in waters, an oasis for fishermen and the place with the highest annual rainfall in Croatia, so three highly attractive lakes were built in Ružine. You can take a boat, canoe or kayak across Bajer, and surfers love it because of the frequent wind. Lepenica is the favourite lake of swimmers, attractive for underwater orienteering, while the most recently built lake Potkoš is becoming more and more popular with visitors.
