Winner of the 2010/2011

Višnjica Wold

When the commercial production of sweet potatoes was started in Višnjica Wold hardly anyone knew what it was about. Now you can find them on the menus of many restaurants, but at the restaurant in Višnjica you can try it in every possible variant - as a starter, side dish, main meal, soup or dessert. Basically, in this restaurant you can try anything that is grown in the Višnjica region. You will not be able to find cream soup made of seven types of herbs, cold sour cherry soup, salad from bear garlic, dandelion and monks cress, fried elder flower, and bread with mushrooms, walnuts and nettle anywhere else.

The former wold is an attractive agricultural and tourist estate today, with a hotel and auxiliary building, located near Slatina, in the centuries-old park with linden, chestnut, pine and maple trees. The gentle plains between the slopes of Papuk and the Drava river offer everything that is needed for relaxation and an active vacation. Here you can groom horses, ride them, help in the stables, feed the deer, cycle on marked trails, hike on educational paths, ride in a horse-drawn carriage, do gardening, take part in culinary and painting workshops....

The Višnjica Horse Farm breeds Quarter and Paint horses, and corrals for horses and deer are spread out across the estate. You will quickly become one with nature and enjoy the new rural experience.

The renovation and regeneration of the existing site, development of roads, signalling systems, numerous activities, and a high quality tourist offer, have made Višnjica Wold the national winner of the 2010/2011 European destination of excellence project for the theme “Tourism and regeneration of physical sites”.
