Sveti Martin na Muri in Međimurje County

Sveti Martin na Muri in Međimurje County was declared a European Destination of Excellence for 2006/2007 as “the best new rural destination”.


The destinations who competed in the election support initiatives that have contributed to the promotion of the local tourist offer by the better preservation and evaluation of the natural and cultural heritage of the countryside, and have adopted a general approach to the managing of their own tourist offer in a way that ensures social, cultural and environmental sustainability.


The municipality of Sveti Martin na Muri – a natural, cultural and business oasis of the north of the Republic of Croatia

Sveti Martin na Muri is located on the right bank of the river Mura, in a valley between the northern hills in Međimurje County. It consists of 14 settlements with a total of 2,605 inhabitants over an area of 25.14 km2. Over the last decade, in the municipality with thermal water, a spa and environmental facilities, the awareness of sustainable forms of tourism has actively been raised. LifeClass Terme Sveti Martin is already a well-known and branded thermal and sports destination.


Environmental and cultural heritage is a large part of the tourist offer. The most recognisable tourist places and activities are alongside the river Mura. You can visit the restored floating mill and visitor centre – the Miller’s House, you can walk and ride a bicycle down the marked trails, experience a trip on the traditional rafts and wooden boats on the river, try the traditional wine and food selection and enjoy the Mura regional nature park. With the nature, healthy and locally produced gastronomic delicacies, modern accommodation, more than a century of tradition in thermal spa bathing, the unforgettable wellness offer and areas for professional and leisure sports players – it is world of healthy pleasures.
