Assumption of Mary

Assumption of Mary

Trsat

In 1291, the lumberjacks of Trsat saw a cabin in the woods that they hadn’t seen before. The legend says it was the Nazareth home of the Virgin Mary, which the angels, fearing Turkish conquerers, had transferred to Trsat where it stood for a full three years and seven months. Today, that place is occupied by the Shrine of Our Lady of Trsat, renowned for its numerous pilgrimages and especially for the main ceremony for the Assumption of Mary on 15 August.

Before the holiday itself, a three-day prayer will start with the evening mass on 12 August, and on 14 August, the gardens of the Shrine will host a concert by Mirjana Bobuš. On the day of the ceremony for the Assumption of Mary, masses will be held at 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.30 AM, as well as an evening mass at 6.30 PM, led by the Archbishop of Rijeka, mons. Ivan Devčić. Throughout August, every Saturday from 8 AM, the Shrine of Our Lady of Trsat will hold confessions for pilgrims, the way of the cross and masses for the pilgrims.
